Harnessing the Power of Joy!

Let me describe to you my first kayak ride of the season.
Pure Joy!

Seriously that is what I felt. I could feel myself grinning from ear to ear in what only can be described as pure joy!

My Happy Place
My Happy Place

In order to harness the power of pure joy, my honey and I had to first put in some time and effort, but it was well worth it. After work, we packed overnight bags, dinner and breakfast fixings, the dog and dog food. We drove an hour from home to get to my family cottage. Once there we had to unpack the car, make the bed, wash down and get the fridge running.   We had to uncover the outdoor table and chairs, move them unto the deck and wash everything down.

It is a labor of love to open up the cottage.
It is a labor of love to open up the cottage.

There is no water yet so we had lug 5 gallon buckets up the 2.5 flights of stairs for cleaning dishes, hands and for flushing the toilet.

In the morning we carried 2 kayaks down those 2.5 pretty steep staircases, and made a 3rd trip up and down for the paddles and key to the boathouse. Three trips up and down these steps is a workout! But then we were ready…

I helped my honey into her kayak and launched my own. The sun was shining, the water was calm and clear and my honey was in the kayak next to mine.

Life does not get any better than this.

I have learned that sitting in my little blue kayak in the middle of the lake is where I am happiest. I go there both figuratively and literally in order to de-stress and to unwind.

It took planning and time and effort for us to get away for a night in the middle of the week to a cottage that hasn’t even been opened up for the season. Not one second of that planning or time or effort felt like work to me. It was all done in anticipation of the feel good vibes I knew I would get to enjoy once my feet were on the deck overlooking the lake.

Oh what a feeling!
Oh what a feeling!

If you don’t know where your happy place is, I suggest you go get introspective to figure it out.

Don’t know where to start? The library is filled with books designed to help you figure YOU out. I promise the time and energy you put into this one thing will make you a happier person. It will give you the power to harness joy!

If you do know where your happy place is tell me about it in the comment section! I am always looking for new ways to experience JOY!

Not only could I feel myself grinning from ear to ear this morning but my honey commented on it twice within a matter of minutes. Pure joy is a feeling you deserve to experience! It is a feeling everyone deserves to experience. Sometimes you have to put in some time and effort to get yourself into a position to harness the power of joy – but it is well worth it.

Go get happy!

  1. I think for most of your sisters our happy place is also in the middle of that Lake. Got our house for August.

  2. My happy place will always be the ocean…. the lake just has to do when I can’t be at the ocean.
