Travel Update!

I safely arrived at Mother Fran’s yesterday morning at 10:30AM! The ride was uneventful and I exercised extreme caution on my three day drive. My initial plan as I shared in my last post, In The Cautious Category, I had planned to stop at my sisters for a quick COVID style visit. You know the type – where you wear a mask, keep 6 feet apart and stay outdoors as much as possible. A couple of days prior to hopping in the car, I had doubts and ended up cancelling this part of the trip. My final destinations was my Mom’s house and I was determined to not take any chances that could risk bringing the virus to her.

Instead I drove about 9.5 hours on Thanksgiving and stayed in an Airbnb RV in Capron, VA. It was fun experiencing a small taste of living in a van! The trickiest thing was figuring out how to start the stovetop so I could make myself a cup of tea. I got up early and hit the road at 7:20AM, arriving at my next destination (Atlantic Beach, FL) around 5PM. The drive seemed longer than the day before but it was fun to check off the states as I drove through them. Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and finally Florida!

I had another Airbnb experience that night and the most difficult task was to break into the bathroom (without breaking anything)! The door was locked for some odd reason and all the pulling and pushing and twisting I did was not helpful. I ended up sticking a sharp knife into the jam and was able to pop it open! My next career may be as a criminal! I have been watching a Netflix show on Scientology so I watched one of those, talked to my honey on the phone and hit the bed early.

I packed plenty of food for this trip so I didn’t need to stop except for gas and bathroom breaks. Mother Fran instilled this ability into all of us! I had made tuna fish, egg salad, hard boiled eggs and roast chicken. I made 2 smoothies the night before I left home and drank one on Thursday and one on Friday. That worked out really good. A little lettuce, 1/2 of a banana, blueberries, some protein powder, a spoonful of Sunbutter and almond milk. I don’t always drink enough when travelling and this did the trick. I drank herbal tea all morning while driving and my smoothie after lunch.

My final day in the car started at 6:20AM and ended at 10:30AM. It was all worth it when Mother Fran looked up at said to me “oh, you are here” with a big smile on her face! We chatted, ate some lunch, sat outside in the sun overlooking the pond and of course played cards.

I will be here for about a month and am happy to spend time with her and my sister #7. Making the decision to not stop in Virginia to visit #2 and her family was not difficult. I just had to remember what was truly important to me – keeping Mom healthy! Perhaps I will stop on my way home when she won’t have other guests and I won’t be on my way to Mother Fran’s.

I hope you had a safe Thanksgiving and that you and your loved ones stay healthy.
